What each spec means for operator use

A matched class spindle in the kit means it has been selected to suit the type of CNC machine you’re running, helping avoid under- or over-sizing. The kit comes with an ER collet set, covering a practical range of cutter shanks, so you’re ready for typical routing or light milling jobs from the start.

The labelled tray means every collet has a marked spot for quick checks before and after a shift. This really helps in shared bays where several operators use the same tooling and you need to see at a glance if something is missing or out of place. Its ideal for shops running different staff on days and nights.

Keeping the kit stock in Gauteng means quick access for teams based in Joburg and surrounds, but we deliver across South Africa. Regular cleaning and a light oil film on spindle and collet surfaces prevent rust and dust buildup, especially on the Highveld or coastal areas like Durban and Gqeberha.

Site requirements for spindle kit use

The Feature Spindle Kit itself does not need direct wiring or air, but it must be installed on a compatible CNC router or compact mill with the correct power supply. Most spindle installations ask for 230 V single-phase or 400 V three-phase, but always check your machine’s requirements and use a registered electrician for any new connections. This is needed for a valid Certificate of Compliance under South African regulations.

You’ll want a clear, dry area around the machine so operators can access the spindle and tray without knocking into other equipment or risking dust dropping onto open tooling. In dusty shops, fit a dust extraction system nearby. Dont store the kit directly under a vent or in the path of oil spray from adjacent machinery.

If you’re in a region with regular power cuts, fit a UPS on the controller and PC so you can do a safe spindle shutdown and re-check tool position after power returns.

Options, tooling and care routines

The kit includes an ER collet set and a labelled tray as standard. You can get extra or replacement collets for specific sizes or swap in an insert shadow board if you run multiple tool types at the bay. A spindle matched to your job means fewer vibration problems and longer bearing life.

For care, wipe down collets and spindle nose with a lint-free rag and a light machine oil at the end of each week. In coastal areas like Durban, Gqeberha or Cape Town, cover the tray when not in use to limit rust from salt air. Ms Thembisa Tau can advise on dust extraction setups that will work with your router or mill.

Optional crate brace kits are available for transport if you plan to move your spindle kit between sites. Always check that collets are seated properly before each job.
