The Feature bay checklist is a free, practical weekly planning sheet to keep your machine bays, CNC cells, or fab shops organised and safe for every shift.
Workshop managers, foremen and team leaders use the bay checklist to keep a clear weekly plan for each machine bay, CNC cell or fabrication area. It’s for job shops, sign makers, training centres, and technical schools who want to avoid confusion at shift change or when bringing in contractors.
The checklist helps everyone see at a glance what jobs are in the queue, what setups or maintenance are due, and who is responsible for which tasks. It is especially useful when teams rotate between bays, or when raw materials and people are shared across the floor.
Each checklist starts with the bay or area name, week or date range, shift team, and main jobs planned for that bay. There’s a section for key machine setups, which PPE is required, and what maintenance is due. List any special fixtures, accessories or consumables needed (like coolant, abrasive or filter packs), and note any unusual risk, inspections or guarding checks needed.
If you spot a missing item or a job that is not clearly listed, don’t leave it blank, add it so the next person is not left guessing. Use the notes column for power cut prep, material delays, or extra safety reminders.
Pin the checklist at the bay entrance or tool crib, where everyone in the area can see it. At the end of each week, tick off finished jobs, highlight any carry-overs, and record problems like repeated downtime, missed maintenance or safety gaps.
If the same issue keeps coming up, like a fume extractor always running full, or a shear waiting for blades, use the checklist notes to record it for a supervisor. Over a month, these repeated issues are easy to spot in the review, making it easier to plan parts orders, update the maintenance schedule, or arrange extra operator training if needed. Its easy to forget to update the PPE list after a shift change, so make a habit of checking it every Monday.
