Who the power cut plan is for

Our power cut plan is a straightforward, printable log designed for CNC shops, fabrication bays, woodwork teams and toolrooms in South Africa. It helps you plan jobs around power outages caused by scheduled cuts, faults, or cable theft, which remain a risk in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal even after national load issues eased.

Production managers, foremen and operators rely on this plan to see at a glance when it is safe to start a long machining run or recharge backup batteries. It suits workshops that use single-phase or three-phase supply, especially where machine jobs can run longer than a typical outage window. If your team works off paper next to the machine, or you need to show a week’s view to everyone in the bay, this plan will help keep your work on track.

What is on the plan and how to fill it in

The power cut plan is a simple one-page sheet for the shop floor, covering a full week. It is designed for easy marking with a pen or pencil by anyone in the workshop. All teams can use it, whether you cut, machine, press or assemble.

To fill in the plan, complete these steps each week with your team:

How to use the plan over a month and spot problems

Keep the completed plans for at least four weeks. Review them at the end of each month to spot patterns such as recurring power cuts at certain times, missed recharge windows, or jobs that have run into trouble due to outages.

If you find that jobs are often stopped mid-run or you regularly lose work progress, consider installing a UPS on your controller and PC, and always re-home axes and re-check your work zero after a power cut. If outages are frequent, discuss options to stagger shifts or move critical jobs to safer time slots. Bring up any ongoing supply issues with your installer or maintenance team. If you need the latest printable log, send us a message through our contact form and we will provide it.
