The Feature Dust Cell is a bay-class extractor designed for CNC router and engraving environments. It moves enough air to handle chips and fines from typical multi-head router bays or shared zones, keeping airborne dust from settling on parts or machine ways. Staged filtration means coarse chips are caught in the first stage, with finer dust trapped further down the line, so you get more consistent airflow and the filters last longer.
Noise can be an issue with extraction units, so the Dust Cell’s noise spec points you straight to the right PPE. If the measured sound level exceeds 85 dB(A), hearing protection is required by law, and the area should be marked as a hearing protection zone. This helps you meet both the Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Regulations and your own health and safety requirements.
The unit is ideal for workshops running both routers and engravers where mixed materials, wood, MDF, plastic, or even light aluminium, create a range of dust types. By capturing particles at the source, you reduce both clean-up time and occupational exposure to hazardous dust, which is key for compliance with the Regulations for Hazardous Chemical Agents.
The Feature Dust Cell is a floor-standing unit that needs enough room in your bay for airflow around the intake and access to the filters. Position it so operators can reach the filter panels easily for inspection and changes, and make sure there's space for flexible hosing to the router or engraver tables.
For power, South African shops will usually connect to a 230 V single-phase supply, but always check your existing wiring before installation. Any new electrical work has to be done by a registered electrician who issues a Certificate of Compliance, and wiring must follow SANS 10142-1 code. The unit does not need compressed air, just a safe mains socket and clear access.
If you’re in a coastal area like Durban or Gqeberha, cover or oil any exposed steel to prevent corrosion from salt in the air. Keep space free for routine maintenance so filter changes can be done without moving equipment.
Staged filter packs are consumables and must be swapped out as part of your maintenance routine. The main options here are the grade and type of filter stage: coarse pre-filters for chips, followed by finer dust panels. You can order extra filter stage packs to suit your shop’s shift cycle or material mix.
For workshops using both routers and engravers, a splitter kit can connect multiple pickup points to the same Dust Cell. Ask us about clamp kits or hose adaptors if you have non-standard ducting. Ms Thembisa Tau keeps records of filter stage compatibility for all Feature bay units.
Don’t forget to keep a filter change log with the machine, as required by most safety audits and our own care instructions. Its easy to miss a filter change if you dont have a routine system in place.
