How the key specifications work in your shop

The Feature Mill 3-Axis covers compact milling tasks where floor space is tight and flexibility is needed. Its BT30 spindle accepts a wide range of ER collets, making tool changes fast and setup straightforward for mixed fixture or prototype work.

Flood and mist coolant give you control over chip and swarf clearance whether cutting mild steel or aluminium. Most teams will use flood for heavy cuts and mist for lighter work, so you can adapt coolant delivery to suit the job and material on hand.

This compact class build is intended for tight bays or toolrooms. If you mainly do small batch runs, short fixtures, or need a machine to back up your main line, this size is a practical fit.

Preparing your site for installation

South African CNC machines must go onto a flat, stable floor, concrete is ideal. Leave enough space around the Feature Mill 3-Axis for access to the enclosure, tool changing, and coolant maintenance. A clear metre on all working sides is a good guide.

Power requirements match standard supply: 400 V three-phase at 50 Hz is typical for this class. All fixed electrical installation work must be carried out by an electrician who issues a Certificate of Compliance, as per SANS 10142-1.

Coolant and swarf mean you'll need drainage and easy cleaning. Extraction is not usually needed for coolant but keep the area free from dust, especially in Highveld workshops where fine dust can settle into machine ways quickly.

Tooling, options and consumables to plan for

The BT30 spindle works with ER collets, so you can run a broad selection of cutters. For most users, a starter set of matched collets and labelled tray keeps tool changes efficient. If you rotate between operators, a pegboard or drawer for inserts and fixtures reduces lost time.

Coolant consumables include periodic top-ups and filter cleaning. For the tooling itself, use a spindle kit matched to your application, whether roughing, fine engraving, or tapping pads. Feature Equipment offers a Spindle Kit with all items organised and ready.

Occasionally, you may need soft jaws or custom fixtures for specific jobs. Dont overlook simple accessories like a crate brace kit or filter packs for coolant care, especially if you run multiple shift teams.
