The Feature Sheet Shear is purpose-built for cutting mild steel sheet cleanly and quickly. The ‘mild steel cue’ means it’s designed for standard South African sheet thicknesses and grades common in fabrication, with enough blade strength for most workshop prep work. The ‘blade card’ spec refers to the type and gap setting of the shear blades, making sure you get a crisp cut edge without tearing or burrs.
A square fence as the stop ensures you can batch cut blanks accurately to the same length or width, which is vital for repetitive jobs or when feeding material into other machines later. This setup is ideal for prepping stock for bending, welding, or further machining, so you dont lose time truing up edges afterwards.
It’s best suited for prep and stock management, not for intricate parts or curved features. For more complex work, machines like CNC routers or laser cutters are better choices.
The Feature Sheet Shear is a floor-standing machine and needs a solid, level surface to operate safely. Leave enough clearance all around the machine for loading sheet and for safe operator movement. Space behind and beside the shear is important, especially if you’re cutting longer blanks.
Power supply must match your workshop’s available voltage, either 230 V single-phase or 400 V three-phase at 50 Hz. All new electrical connections must be installed by a registered electrician who issues a Certificate of Compliance, in line with SANS 10142-1 code.
No extraction or compressed air is required during cutting, but it’s good practice to sweep or vacuum up offcut strips and sheared blanks regularly to prevent slips and reduce clutter. Keep a safe working area to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Blade oil is listed as a care item. Regular light oiling helps prevent surface rust, especially in coastal or humid areas like Durban, Gqeberha or Cape Town. For Gauteng’s dry climate, dust can build up on moving parts, so keep the shear clean and free of filings.
The square fence is a standard accessory and critical for repeat work. Some teams also add a crate brace kit or use a labelled tray for storing small offcuts so nothing gets lost between shifts.
Shear blades will eventually need sharpening or replacement after heavy use. Always follow guarding and lockout procedures when changing or maintaining blades. For any questions about consumables or tooling, our team can advise on the best fit for your workload.
