Care & consumables

Routine care and choosing the right consumables keep your CNC machines running safely and cutting accurately in South African conditions.

Common questions on routine care and consumables

What should you check daily? Wipe down rails, empty dust trays, and inspect tips, nozzles or lenses before a shift. Don’t forget to keep an eye on coolant levels and the state of extraction filters. Clean collets and tool holders help avoid chatter and tool runout, especially on routers and mills.

How long do consumables last? It depends on material, shift hours, and your local environment. Plasma tips wear faster in dusty shops or if your air is wet. Fibre laser lenses last longer if you avoid smudges and airborne debris. Filter life in a Feature Dust Cell depends on the mix of fine and coarse dusts: in Joburg, dry Highveld seasons mean more filter checks, while coastal workshops watch for corrosion.

What about power cuts? A sudden stop can leave a tool jammed or a spindle running hot. Always use a UPS on your controller or PC, and re-home axes after power returns. If you see signs of burning, smoke or vibration after a restart, stop and check the machine before carrying on.

What to send so we can assess the machine issue

Supplying the right details first time means we can give you practical advice or recommend the correct part. If you have a breakdown, short lifespan or a change in cut quality, start by letting us know the machine family, what you’ve already checked, and what symptoms you see.

If it’s about a consumable or part, a clear photo of the worn or failed item next to something for scale (like a ruler or coin) helps. Note the workshop location, your air, power or dust setup, and any recent maintenance. If you bought from us, we can look up your machine build if you share the serial or delivery note.

What happens once you send a support enquiry

We will review your message and one of our technical team will come back with questions or a practical next step. Sometimes its a quick fix, other times we might need a video or suggest a visit.

If you need to return a part, our team will guide you through the process. The Consumer Protection Act covers defective goods for individuals and small businesses, but not juristic persons over the R2 million threshold. Once we see your details, we’ll advise on warranty or service routes.
