The shear square fence is a practical fixture for holding sheet metal square as you cut, helping ensure clean, accurate blanks every time.
Pair it with the bays it suits, and read our note on measuring the bed before a quote.
Request fixture noteA shear square fence is a solid or adjustable guide that mounts to the bed or table of your guillotine or bench shear. Its job is to keep every blank or sheet lined up at a true right angle before the blade drops, so you get square edges ready for downstream forming, welding or CNC work.
At Feature Equipment, our shear square fence matches the Feature Sheet Shear and can be adapted to other guillotines or bench shears with a flat bed. It is popular in fabrication shops, training centres and technical schools where consistent blank size and squareness matter for batch work, jigs or forming jobs.
Mount the square fence firmly to your shear table using the supplied bolts or clamps, making sure the fence edge is clean and sits tight against the bed. Always check with a good engineer's square before running your first blanks.
When feeding sheet, butt the workpiece up against the fence and apply even pressure along the length as you cut. This avoids creep or twist and keeps your batch consistent. It's worth marking your batch sizes or using a stop block when running repeat lengths.
Wipe down your shear square fence after use to clear off metal dust, oil or chips. On the Highveld, dust can build up quickly and affect accuracy if left between the fence and the table. At the coast, keep bare metal oiled to stop rust from salt air. If the fence edge gets dinged or burred, dress it lightly with a fine file or stone.
Don’t forget to check the clamps and fasteners for tightness now and then, especially if your shear gets moved around or banged during busy shifts. If the fence is out of square or the surface is worn or bent, let us know so we can advise if a replacement or refacing is needed.
To help us supply the right fence for your setup, let us know which machine you’re using (for example, Feature Sheet Shear or another model), plus your usual blank size and any particular batch sizes you want to run.
Mention how many units you need and if you want any accessories, like extra stop blocks. If you’re in a coastal area, ask about protective finishes to help with rust. Send us a message using our contact form if you’re unsure or want advice.
