Torch height lock

A torch height lock is a mechanical stop that holds your plasma torch at a fixed pierce or cut height. It helps keep starts consistent on repeat jobs and tricky sheets.

Pair it with the bays it suits, and read our note on measuring the bed before a quote.

Fits Feature Plasma Compact and helps control pierce height

The torch height lock is designed for our Feature Plasma Compact air plasma tables. It acts as a physical stop, letting you set and hold the torch at a precise pierce or cut height for a full run. This fixture is ideal for fabrication shops that cut mild steel, stainless or aluminium sheet and plate, especially when working with sheets that have some surface variation or are prone to flex.

If your work includes frequent production runs, materials with coated or rough surfaces, or you need to reduce tip and nozzle wear, the torch height lock will make your setup more reliable. It is less useful for manual plasma cutters or tables without a Z-axis. For CNC tables with working torch height control, it serves as a backup to avoid accidental drops or sensor errors.

How to set up and use the torch height lock

Fitting the torch height lock is straightforward and can usually be done in under ten minutes by an operator or technician. All mounting fasteners and guides are included with the kit.

Once set up, the torch height lock is adjusted by hand to your chosen pierce or cut height. This is especially useful when working with repeat jobs or swapping between different materials and thicknesses.

Care, cleaning and typical wear points

Keep the torch height lock free of slag, dust and oil. Wipe down the fixture after use, and check for any debris that might jam the locking action. On the Highveld, fine dust can gather quickly, so compressed air can help but avoid blowing dust into sensitive areas.

Typical wear points are the locking knob or set screw and the sliding surfaces. Lubricate these lightly with machine oil every month, and inspect regularly for signs of thread wear or distortion. At the coast, keep bare steel parts oiled to prevent rust, especially in Durban, Gqeberha or Cape Town.

Information we need for your order

To supply the correct torch height lock for your plasma table, let us know which Feature Plasma Compact model you have. If you use aftermarket torch bodies or custom mounts, send us a photo or the make and size.

Tell us the quantity needed if your shop runs multiple tables. If you require special sizes or clearance for specific torches, mention this on our contact form so we can match the fixture to your setup.
