Crate brace kit

Our crate brace kit is a modular set of internal braces and pads for securing machinery, fixtures or parts inside timber crates for shipping or export.

Pair it with the bays it suits, and read our note on measuring the bed before a quote.

What the crate brace kit is designed for

The crate brace kit is a practical accessory for export or long-haul transport of CNC machines, subassemblies and fabricated parts. It includes a set of reusable timber and foam braces, pegs and pressure pads that lock the machine or workpieces securely inside standard timber export crates.

This fixture works well with our Feature Router 1212, Feature Mill 3-Axis, Feature Lathe Compact, or when packing finished fixtures and assemblies made on these machines. It is also useful for shipping parts from Feature Waterjet Bay or Feature Plasma Compact if you need to brace sheet, plate or awkward profiles for cross-border or national delivery.

How to set up and use the crate brace kit

Plan the crate layout so the machine or parts are evenly supported, with all movement blocked along the crate walls and base. Begin by fitting the largest braces to anchor the equipment to the crate floor and panels. Use the foam pads at all contact points, especially on painted or machined surfaces.

Install the pegs and tension pads by hand, checking that nothing can shift if the crate is tilted or jostled. For moving assemblies, add blocks or wedges under spindles, tables or chucks to prevent vibration or flex. Once braced, close and seal the crate. If shipping overseas, make sure the crate timber is ISPM 15 compliant and stamped.

Care, wear and good packing habits

Inspect the crate brace kit before each use for splits, loose fasteners or damaged foam pads. Replace worn pieces as needed to avoid movement or abrasion during transit. Always keep the kit dry and free of oil or grease, as timber can swell or lose strength in damp conditions.

Store brace kits off the floor when not in use, especially at the coast or in high humidity. If you pack machines for long storage or export, add a dust cover and consider sealing exposed ways or rails to prevent rust, especially for coastal shipments from Durban, Gqeberha or Cape Town.

What to tell us when ordering your kit

Let us know which Feature machine, fixture or assembly you are packing, your crate internal dimensions and the number of kits needed. If you need custom foam shapes for irregular components or added protection for painted or polished surfaces, mention these requirements for a matched set.

For export, tell us if you require ISPM 15 certified timber or need extra documentation for cross-border shipments. We will help you select the right kit and confirm fit on your packing plan. To get started, send us a message through our contact form with your details.
